Our department is established in support of the “Ministry of Knowledge Economy”. We aim to raise experts who understand many areas, from materials to systems involved in photovoltaic systems through specialized curriculum; in detail, Materials, Photo-voltaic Battery, Power Conditioning System, Balance of System, etc.
Photovoltaic systems generate electrical power directly from solar energy using semiconductor devices called solar cells. Photovoltaic systems are a rapidly increasing method of generating electric power directly from sunlight.
Photovoltaic Systems Engineering (PSE) is a field related to the solar system, where students can gain practical experience in industry required skills and creative talents with a cosmopolitan outlook.
In the second year of the photovoltaic system engineering course, students have the opportunity to undertake a year-two group project based on an experimental subject. The course has developed a lecture component covering project engineering, report writing and presentation skills. This course helps to prepare students for their fourth semester thesis, which is undertaken by all students enrolled in the photovoltaic, solar energy, power electronics and power system graduate programs.
The curriculum will be system focused rather than in-depth. Each subject will emphasize how a component is related to the overall solar cell design and application including power electronics.
It is a training program designed to provide both aspects of solar cell engineering, technical as well as industrial leadership, which is not typically covered in current engineering MS and Ph.D. degree programs.
The degree program, 'Professional Master of Science' and Ph.D. courses in School of Information and Computer Engineering (ICE), is an innovative new program which will give students a through understanding of the tools, methods, and practice of photovoltaic system engineering. It will be both focused and practical in its orientation, with the goal of providing an education that is directly applicable to a career in industry. The degree will be suitable for a new or recent graduate, as well as experienced professionals who want to receive the necessary retraining to change careers.
