■강의 제목: Designing Efficient Datacenter Architecture Through Performance Modeling

■Abstract

:  As the recent HW/SW systems have been getting more complicated, it is in dire need of providing simple and accurate performance models for those complex systems. With simple and accurate performance models, we can abstract complex systems into much simpler ones and provide more efficient HW/SW system designs based on those models. In this talk, he will discuss several performance modeling research projects and explore future research directions. First, he will present SSD-Check, modeling black-box SSDs to avoid irregular behaviors in modern SSDs. Next, he will introduce UC-Check, characterizing CPU micro-op cache to analyze its performance and security implications. Lastly, he will cover another CPU modeling project (i.e., SMT-check) and other future research directions.

■Bio

: Joonsung Kim is an assistant professor in the Department of Semiconductor Systems Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University. He received his Ph.D in 2021 from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Seoul National University. He earned his M.S. and B.S. from the Department of Computer and Science in POSTECH. Before joining Sungkyunkwan University, he worked as a datacenter performance engineer at Google for two years. His research interests are in computer architecture, system performance modeling, and LLM acceleration architecture to solve the performance problems in emerging heterogeneous datacenter systems.
