※ Starting from the Spring Semester of the 2025, the composition of thesis/dissertation committee members will require approval by the Graduate School Committee. As per university regulations, please ensure that you adhere to the guidelines for the composition of the pre defense committee. Due to the newly added approval process, there will be no extension to the application period, nor will there be an additional application period.
Graduate students who are eligible for the thesis/dissertation Pre-Defense should be apply for pre defense with the following procedures and requirements.
※ Please make sure to apply for thesis advisor through GLS, before applying for pre-defense. If you have applied for a pre-defense or thesis advisor through GLS, you do not need to apply. But students who have changed their advisory professor or added a co-advisor must also reapply. ※ [ Go to Notice of 2025-1 Apply for Thesis Advisor ] |
1. Proposal Application Period: April 21(Mon) to 28(Mon), 17:00PM
- All of the requirements for the Pre-Defense proposal should be produced out by the deadline above.
2. Eligibilities
Applicants should meet the following requirements to propose the Pre-Defense, as follows:
- | Credit | GPA |
Master's | 15 credits or more | 3.0 (B) or above |
Ph.D | 27 credits or more | 3.0 (B) or above |
Combined | 39 credits or more | 3.0 (B) or above |
3. Required Document:
1) (Required) Plan of the Thesis
2) (Required) Thesis/Dissertation Pre-Defense Application Form
3) (Required) Declaration of Ethical Conduct in Research
4) External Committee Member Personal Information (Only if you have external member)
※ Attached Document: “Certificate of employment” or “Evidence of research performance” or “Screenshot of Institution homepage”
4. How to Apply
1) Download the application form (※ Please be sure to use the form attached to the notice.)
※ If you have Co-advisor, please use the form for “Co-advisor”.
2) Fill the form and obtain the signature of committee members and advisor professor
3) “Apply for Pre-defense” through GLS System
① Go to “GLS-신청/자격관리-학위논문심사신청-논문예심신청/신청결과조회” menu
② Insert the Title of the thesis/dissertation
③ Scan and Upload the completed form as a PDF file to the each section. (File name: Student ID_Name_Title)
※ ”Plan of the Thesis”, “Pre-Defense Application Form” and “Declaration of Ethical Conduct in Research“
④ Insert the advisor and committee member
※ If you have a co-advisor, please insert both advisors in the GLS system.
※ If you have external committee member, Please fill the “External Committee Member Personal Information” form, and attached “Certificate of employment” or “Evidence of research performance” as a PDF file.
⑤ Click to “접수신청”
⑥ Graduate Office confirmation and approval
⑦ Print the “접수증”, and Payment(transfer) the pre-defense fee
※ Fee for Pre-Defense: 40,000 Won for Master's, 100,000 Won for Ph.D. and Combined.
※ Payment deadline: - April 30(Wed), 2025
5. Note
1) The committee are appointed by the advisor and consists of three full-time faculty members.
- Advisor (Full-time faculty member of the department)
- Chair of the committee (Full-time faculty member of the university)
- Committee member 1 (Full-time faculty member of the university)
※ If you have a co-advisor, it is consists of four full-time faculty members including 2 advisors.
※ Must obtain the signature of the appointed committee member.
2) Master's pre-defense material(Thesis and PT file) should be made up to the uploading period.
3) Ph.D. (Combined) pre-defense dissertation should be submitted a week before the date of the public presentation to the dissertation committee you formed.
